Is It Appropriate To Give Money As A Gift?

According to Real Simple, “Giving money as a giftโ€”or even asking for money as a giftโ€”used to be considered tacky. But not anymore.” It also creates less waste as Kelsee B Hankins says, “If you give someone a gift that they wonโ€™t use, thatโ€™s a waste of time and energy, as well as your money.”

Money is the most versatile gift. Itโ€™s always appreciated, never goes out of style, and it wonโ€™t end up in the garage sale pile! A gift of money gives the recipient the freedom to spend it exactly how they need or want. Whether itโ€™s used for something practical, saved for something special, or spent on something frivolous, money allows the recipient to choose what works best for them!

With just a few supplies, you can transform a simple gift of money into a festive masterpiece!

  • Money – Choose the denominations that work best for your budget.
  • Jar or Snack-Size Baggies – Depending on which option you choose below. I used 8 ounce jars but you could use any size jar that you’d like to fill with rolled bills. The bag toppers will fit up to a 7″ wide baggie and have a little room to trim them down on each end if your baggie is a bit smaller.
  • Baker’s Twine – You could use any type of string but I chose to use baker’s twine since this gift plays on the word dough.
  • Pencil – I used a pencil to roll the bills.
  • Gingerbread Man Tags And Toppers – Found below.
  • Colored Printer – For printing your tags and toppers.
  • Card Stock – For printing the Christmas Dough Gingerbread Man Tags and Baggie Topper.
  • Scissors – For cutting the tags or toppers.
  • 1/8″ Hole Punch – I used a hole punch for the tags I tied to jars and for the large gingerbread man money holder.
  • Stapler – If you plan to use the baggie toppers, you’ll need a stapler to attach the topper to the bag.

Exactly what I needed to add to my granddaughters Christmas gifts.

More Ways To Use These Tags

There is no limit to the ways you can use these tags! With so many different tag options, you can use them on jars, treat bags, or even a snow globe! Another fun idea would be to cut 12 of the medium size gingerbread tags, attach folded bills to the back of each gingerbread man, and tape them on a cookie sheet with a wooden spoon and ribbon tied around it.

Loved these. I used these as Christmas gifts for my Nieces. When they opened their gift bag and saw a small Mason jar filled with $$ they both said how cute they were.

Frequently Asked Questions

While these tags were designed to use with money, you could also use the gingerbread man tags to gift cookie dough, baking supplies, or other dough themed gifts. However, the poem is specific for money gifts.

The amount of money you include in a jar is what works best for your budget. Be sure to use a jar that you can fill so it looks full and adjust the gift amount by the denominations you use. I found that 15 bills fit nicely in eight ounce jars so you could do 15 ones for a $15 gift or throw in a five, ten, or twenty to make it more.

I use a pencil to roll the money. It helps to cut and loop the baker’s twine before you roll the bills so you can hold onto the bill on the pencil and slide the twine over it to tighten and tie into a bow.

I cut the baker’s twine into 9″ lengths and found that worked perfectly when rolled on a pencil.
