Why Play This Game?

We host an annual Christmas craft party for our nieces and nephews. It is so much fun and a joy to have them celebrating Christmas with us but sometimes we get so busy with crafting things like Yarn Snowballs and festive activities that I miss out on hearing more about them and engaging in conversation. So, this year, I wanted to create a game where we could hear a bit about each other whether it’s a funny or heartfelt little tidbit.

This Shake-Up The Conversation Christmas Game was designed to get people talking so you can learn something new about the people around you! It’s also super easy for the host to set up. Just print and cut the cards and have a few prizes on hand for those with the funniest and most heartfelt answers.

We also played the Who Is Most Like A Snowman Game for the second year in a row, as requested by the little ones who love to see fake snowballs flying through the air! Another new addition this year was the Spin To Win Christmas Bow Game that we were all excited to play because who doesn’t like to spin a wheel to win a prize?

The questions in this game are meant to be thought-provoking but the answers could be heartfelt or hilarious. It isn’t designed to be heavy but rather a fun way to learn something new about those around you.

Rules

The rules are simple and flexible, making this a laid-back game to have on hand for just the right moment.

  1. Each person takes turns to draw a Shake-Up The Conversation Card and answers the question or chooses another person to answer the question instead. (They can take volunteers.) Then, the next person draws a card.
  2. Choose whether you want to time the answers by giving each participant an allotted amount of time (like two minutes max) to answer or if you want to let the conversation flow.
  3. Once all participants have drawn a card, vote on the funniest and most heartfelt answers.
  4. The participants with the most votes in both categories win a prize!

How To Determine The Winners

This game is designed to have two winners: one for the funniest answer and another for the most heartfelt response.

In the game pack below, I have included voting cards that can be passed out so participants can vote anonymously for their favorites. However, when we played this game, the winners were clear and we didn’t bother with voting anonymously.

It’s fun to have a few festive prizes on hand or even game-specific prizes. For this Shake-Up The Conversation Game, a sweet snow globe would be an appropriate prize or you could create a box full of goodies like this White Christmas In A Box.

This year, I purchased a few gift cards, crafty items, festive socks, and wood toys to create a prize basket people could choose from. My goal was to have a variety of things that would work for little ones and adults. It was fun to see what they chose!

Frequently Asked Questions

You can use the questions from this article to shake up the conversation. There’s no need to buy the game! However, having the game cards ready makes it even easier to start when the moment feels right. Plus, thereโ€™s something extra fun about letting participants draw their own cards and read the questions aloud, which is why I personally love having the game cards on hand

The little kids in our lives love to be involved in all that we do and I love that! The youngest we had playing this game was three years old. The two youngest’s answers were one-word answers and they were funny and perfect! So, it’s up to you and your party guests’ tolerance levels of whether or not all ages should be involved in this game but, from my experience, this game is great for all ages!

You may choose to limit the time for each answer but I found that a time limit wasn’t necessary and the game was much more laid-back without one. However, you don’t want to have one person take up all of your game time so I would suggest politely redirecting and offering a question card to the next participant.
