Why Create A Father’s Day Care Package?

A Father’s Day Care Package is more than just a gift. It’s a fun way to package Dad’s favorite things into one gift. It’s kind of like a gift basket, but better!

When my kids were in college, I routinely sent them DIY Care Packages as a way to let them know I was thinking about them and to give them a bit of joy in their day. I enjoyed the process of creating a box that was fun to put together and exciting to open. I think it was just as therapeutic for me as it was for them.

Dads deserve to be celebrated and are the third Sunday of June each year in the United States. You can put together a care package that Dad will be thrilled to receive as a thoughtful gesture that won’t be lost on him.

What To Put In A Father’s Day Care Package

A Father’s Day Care Package can be filled with Dad’s favorite snacks, candy, coffee, small gadgets, and hobby items to create a thoughtful gift he’ll love. What you put in the box for your dad will depend on the things your dad likes. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Snacks – It’s easy to fill a box fast with snack items like Dad’s favorite chips or cookies.
  • Jerky – I’m a vegetarian, but jerky seems like a real Dad thing.
  • Popcorn – This printable set comes with a popcorn tag, so whether you choose microwave popcorn, snack-size popcorn bags, or kernels he can pop himself, popcorn is a snack most dads love. (My husband doesn’t claim to like popcorn, but he is often found sneaking popcorn from our bowls.)
  • Coffee – A bag of coffee he can brew at home would be a perfect addition for the dad who drinks coffee!
  • Gift Cards – If your dad has a favorite coffee stand (like mine does), a gift card to that coffee place would be a nice surprise.
  • Favorite Candy – Gift your dad one of his favorite treats!
  • Socks – A pair of fun and colorful socks or Dad’s favorite athletic socks so he can throw away that pair his toe is sticking through!
  • Books – If your dad likes to read, a good book would be a good addition to your care package. My husband is found most nights working on a crossword puzzle book. He says it’s to keep his mind sharp!
  • T-Shirt – Dads don’t often spend money on themselves, so a new shirt with a fun design or one of their favorite bands could be a welcome surprise.

This list is nowhere near comprehensive. There are so many ways to create a Father’s Day care package. Make it themed around his favorite hobby, fill it with practical things he’ll use every day, or just pack it with all of his favorite things. Whatever you choose, he is sure to love it because you put thought into it!

Dads wear a lot hats: coach, problem solver, storyteller, and occasional joke teller. Father’s Day is all about celebrating you!
