Adopt A Puppy Party Activity

My great-nephew had a puppy-themed birthday party, and my niece bought small stuffed puppies for his friends to adopt. She asked me to make a sign, and I added little Puppy Adoption Certificates. This Adopt A Puppy Party Activity was a hit with the kids! They loved choosing their puppy, naming it, and filling out the adoption certificates. I even had a few ask me the date so they could fill it in.

What You Need For An Adopt A Puppy Party Activity

  • Small Stuffed Puppies – There are many places to purchase small stuffed puppies. Some are more expensive than others. I’ve included an affordable link below.
  • Adopt A Puppy Sign – So everyone knows why there’s a bunch of stuffed puppies at the party!
  • Puppy Adoption Certificates – So the kids can name their puppies and fill in important information about their puppy adoption.
  • 8-1/2″ x 11″ Frame – To frame the Adopt A Puppy Sign.
  • Pens or Pencils – For the kids to fill in their adoption certificates.
  • Scissors or Paper Cutter – To cut the adoption certificates.
  • A Way To Display The Puppies – I happened to have this Graduation Photo Display I had built for my son’s college graduation party, and it worked quite well for this puppy display. You could also use a little white picket fence to put the puppies in!
  • Printer and Cardstock – For printing the sign and adoption certificates.

How To Set Up The Adopt A Puppy Party Activity

Frequently Asked Questions

I didn’t hear any trouble over who got what puppy, probably because there were multiple of each kind of puppy! However, when my son was young and Webkinz were a thing, we hung Webkins from the ceiling using fishing line and let the kids pick one as their party favor. I also remember purchasing file-size boxes, carpet, material, and other fun items for them to decorate a house for their Webkinz. It was a fun activity, but we had a large variety of Webkinz and no doubles, so when two boys wanted the same one, it was a little stressful. It all worked out, but I would suggest having a system for letting the kids choose if you don’t have multiples of each puppy. Maybe have them draw numbers for who picks first.

We didn’t have a designated time for the kids to adopt their puppies, but my niece did let them know they could adopt their puppies, and the kids who hadn’t already did so at that time. It was a bit of a do-as-you-have-time activity, much like the Guess How Many Puppy Party Game and outdoor activities and games she had available.

She had the Guess How Many Puppy Party Game, a scavenger hunt (mentioned earlier), and a pass the parcel game where she had puppy jokes wrapped in each layer with a puppy book as the final prize. She also had yard games like Connect 4 and Tetris available for those who wanted to play, and a wagon filled with Kinetic Sand and small tractors and dump trucks to play with. I also created a Put Out The Fire Beanbag Game that was well used. The kids stayed busy throughout the party!
