Guess How Many Puppy Party Game

My great-nephew had a puppy-themed birthday party and, of course, I had to create a Guess How Many Puppy Party Game because kids love to guess! This game is easy to set up, gives kids something fun to do, and is perfect for puppy-themed parties!

With just a large jar, something puppy-related to fill it with, a sign, and guess cards, you’ll have a game on your hands that will have kids wondering and guessing.

For my great-nephew’s party, I used Scooby Snacks since they are bone-shaped!

How To Play

This game is so easy to prepare! Fill a clear jar with your choice of items, making sure to count them first (write this number down and hide it somewhere).

Guests write their name and best guess on a guess card and place it in a bowl, basket, or box that you’ve set out. Once everyone has filled out a guess card, go through the cards and find the person whose guess is the closest to the actual number.

Give the winner a prize or let them take the whole jar as their prize. (I like to keep my jar for future parties, so I tend to buy a separate gift as a prize.)

What Should I Put In The Guessing Jar?

You can fill the jar with any small item, but for a puppy-themed party, I would suggest things that have to do with puppies.

  • Bone-Shaped Treats
  • Small Puppy Toys
  • Dog Biscuits
  • Dog-Themed Toys

Make sure whatever you choose is easy to count and visible through the jar.

How To Set Up The Puppy Party Guessing Game

Print the Guess How Many Sign and as many guess cards as you’ll need. Frame the sign in a regular 8-1/2×11″ frame and place it, the jar, and the guess cards where everyone will see them.

This is a great activity to have when guests arrive because they can participate whenever they have a spare moment. You also don’t have to stop the party and gather everyone together to explain the game because it’s a game guests can play on their own at any time during the party.

Prize Ideas

Keep in mind the guests who will be attending your puppy party when you’re picking out a prize. If only kids are playing, a toy could be the right motivation. But if you’re including adults in the game, which I usually do, you’ll want to find a prize that anyone could use.

  • Gift Card – Gift cards are always popular, and I usually purchase $10 gift cards. Enough to want to use but not enough to break your budget.
  • The Jar – If you’re willing to give up the jar and its contents, you could give the whole thing as a prize.
  • Movie Gift Card – Just about everyone, including kids, likes to catch a movie on the big screen.
  • Game – If there’s a fun game good for all ages, that could be a great prize idea. All the kids I know love to play games!
  • Cash – A $10 bill wrapped in a creative way would be a fun prize! You could use the Yarn Snowball idea to creatively wrap cash, but instead of white yarn, use a colorful yarn that looks like a ball a puppy might want to play with! You could even add a tag that says, “Unleash your prize!”

In my experience, kids love games, and they love to guess! Even the little ones can take a wild guess and have someone help them fill in their guess cards. This is a game that everyone, including parents, can participate in. Sometimes the easiest party games are the ones that get people talking, laughing, and comparing guesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

That can and does happen. In the past, when that has happened here, the winners usually challenge each other with a game of rock, paper, scissors, or another spontaneous game. Since this game is geared for kids, I would suggest writing down a number between 1 and 25 and having the winners guess a number. The one with the closest number wins. Another option is to take some items out of the jar and have the winners guess again to break the tie. You could also have a few prizes on hand in case this happens so both winners get a prize.

We usually use a regular cereal bowl since that’s what we have on hand. You could do the same or find a small basket or box to use.

My nephew claims he has the method for figuring out the right number, and I’ve seen my mom looking intently at the jar as if she’s counting. It’s up to you how strict you’d like to be, but my usual stance is that you can’t pick the jar up. I don’t care how long you stare at the jar or if you try to count. After all, those antics make the game a little more fun and provide lots of laughs!
